The Vermont Triangle Community Garden started in 2000, at the site of a 3 story building which was demolished as unsafe and pushed into the cellar. We were among the first of the city’s Grassroots Gardens, part of an effort to take back our neighborhood. Building the garden has been a community project. We carried stones from an old cellar hole with a chain of people to border flower beds, we planted trees together, we contributed things from our own garden to fill the flower beds. We bullt raised bed boxes together, we learned Nepali names for the flowers from our neighbors. As the garden been built up, so has the neighborhood, and it has helped us to get to know each other, reduce crime, and attract investors.
